Sorry if this topic has been posted a lot ready.

But prices are people paying for junk silver over spot price. My local shop is charging me 4.5% over spot for Canadian junk silver and wondering if maybe I should be looking for a different shop.

Moved by Forum Mom from Canadian Coins forum to Precious Metals and Bullion forum.

Amongst other things, I collect World coins. As a result of this, I will buy World junk silver F or better, from junk boxes, sometimes for quite a large premium above melt value. Having said that, I am not necessarily looking for junk World silver, although I can quite often find a good value for money purchase.

I buy under spot only. You can get good deals but you have to work for them and be patient. Here is a website that can help you with PM values in constitutional coinage if you dont already have one. http://www.currencydebasement.com

My shop charges 3percent over spot for junk silver using .715 as the factor for US junk silver.

I get dimes under spot usually about $1.50 per face, halves rounded down to the nearest .50 per face. Unfortunately, my LCS had another customer who was buying Morgan/Peace at spot and then running them on ebay. They moved Morgan/Peace dollars to $30 each.

Luke, they knew what his ebay ID is and were able to monitor him that way.

I get US 90% silver coins at spot from my local pawn shop. This is a reasonable price, so I usually buy whatever he has to sell. Only problem is, his inventory is small and he can go for long periods with nothing new coming in. :-/

In the flea market here in my place, the junk is priced at a premium over spot. I am still looking for a place or person who sells junk at spot or Morgans at a reasonable price.
