Got this today in a lot of coins, was shocked. Always a bit concerned about counterfeiting but it looks good to me. Let me know if I'm missing something.

Something doesn't look right with this coin. Have you checked it with a magnet and weighed it yet?

It looks good to me, feels good in my hand, however I am always shy about valuable coins as I was burnt by a 1916-D last year.
However I've NEVER EVER bought a bag of coins (And I've bought truly random bags of morgans/peace dollars from estates) and never ended up with anything as nice as this appears to be.

The surfaces look somewhat porous.

, something does not look right - too grainy (could be the photo). I am not a Peace expert so I look forward to additional opinions and seeing what the weight is.

It is the font of the letters that does not seem right to me, more so than the surfaces. I hope I am wrong!

I'm bothered both by the porosity and the (too thin) line weight of the lettering.

Maybe I'm missing something about the porous aspect. The coins I got in this lot are all absolutely filthy with dirt. The texture in the photo does look a bit porous, however in the hand it does not feel that way. At any rate, I'll be weighing this against my other known/good Peace dollars when I get home later today.

The "WE" in "In GOD WE" does not look right on obv. Just looks to high grade for the color to me.

tpg22 nailed my first suspicion which was crude thin lettering in the motto. The word PEACE is bold while all other lettering seems a bit mushy. Color of the coin appears off like it was artificially aged. I am attaching photos of a genuine NGC-AU-55 coin for comparison. I believe the coin you have is counterfeit.

26.7 according to my scale. My other Peace dollars say the same or similar.

If it is real you are in this cheap enough to cover the cost of sending it to NGC, ANACS or PCGS for grading. That will tell you for sure what you have. I wish you luck on your find.

If you have a metal detector that of a decent quality it will tell you what kind of metal it is or if it has the right amount of silver in it. I have found several ebay counterfeits with mine and, it can't lie.
