Hi Newfguy,
Welcome to the Forum... :) For what it's worth, here's a few things to consider re buying this coin.
Are you wanting to buy this particular coin to fill a spot in your collection... or are you motivated by thinking you might be able to get it at substantially below "book" value...?
Check out some of the links on this site to previous discussions re PCGS grading on Canada coins... sometimes they have a tendency to over-grade...
Have a good look at picture of coin in the listing... blow it up a bit and enhance the features to see the details better... there appears to be a bit of wear on surface of portrait, although difficult to tell because the photo is not in perfect focus...
Also, I myself would never buy a coin that has only the picture of one side and not the other...
Many of the wiser collectors on here will tell you to "buy the coin, not the holder"...
It is quite possible that this coin might only grade at MS-60 by ICCS... current full "Trends" list value is $225... keep in mind that for Newfoundland series coins, unless exceptional value or rarity, you can usually get ICCS graded Newf coins in most denominations at around 65% of Trends list value...
The 1917 dates in Newfoundland are some of the highest mintage and least rare dates in the series...
If you're stuck on finding a 1917 twenty-five cent piece there's a real nice one on
ebay right now, (listing number is 32104198598), being sold by kuh_85 who's a respected contributor to the forum... the coin looks very nice, graded ICCS AU-58, on "Buy it Now" for $87 bucks... that's a good buy.
Take care, and Best Wishes for the Holiday Season!
