Where would someone in Canada go to have raw silver ore refined? Most of the refineries I know of will not take a few hundred pounds of ore and refine it or they are not capable of handling the cobalt, nickel, and arsenic content.

I have about 400 pounds of high grade ore just waiting to be made into silver bars. Would this be something someone could do at their home?

I dont know of anywhere in Canada that does it, I do know Silver Towne in the US does something like that. No clue what they would charge though.

With the proper heat source and equipment it could be done, but obviously the nickel and arsenic are highly toxic. If the locals cannot handle it surely the basement refiner would have no way to get rid of it.

I am in Northern Ontario. There are two refineries near me Yukon and Polymet. Both can not do it.

basebal21 -- I checked out that site you posted. It says they will honor pieces already assayed but I'm not sure if they take rocks.. I already had one 150 lb rock assayed and it assayed at 4,000 oz/ton.. so about 17 pounds of silver in it.

Can you snap a picture of the 150 pound rock. I'm just curious to see what that looks like.

I used to work for southern Bullion, which is a chain of coin and bullion stores which is owned by DGSX or Dallas gold and silver exchange seems like if memory serves me right....

Anyhow we had a fellow bring us in a huge piece of ore to send off to get assayed and it cost him like 20 bucks to find out the specimen in which he sent only had about a quarter gram of gold in it, basically worthless....

So if you could find one of their loactions if there indeed happen to be one close to your location, you could have them assay it for you, but of course you are in Canada....

There must be a similar business in your area which could assay and possibly even purchase the ore from you if you did want to sell....

Seventeen pounds of silver is a solid amount or just over 200 oz., worth just over 6k....

Sure thing. The big rock on the bottom is the one that weighs 150 lbs. The rock has that pink colour because the exposed cobalt in the rock has oxidized.

An old abandoned mine. It came from the rock dumps.

Silverore - I have a few mineral samples lying about but never any silver. Would you consider a small trade for perhaps an ounce of this ore?

If you would like to trade something send me a message. You wouldn't want a piece of this ore for your collection. I would send something better.

You might do better selling it as ore to a collector as novelty? and than taking the cash and buying some silver. maybe a large bag of it at a big silver dip.
