Ok so I am new here. I keep seeing where people post about Boxes from Brinks or their banks. What exactly are boxes? and how do you get coins directly from Brinks and not just your bank? or are you getting the coins that Brinks delivers to your banks?
Sorry for such newby questions.

The use of that word refers to "bank boxes" of circulating coins---the way the bank branches get them from the coin processing/delivery courier services like Brinks, Loomis, etc. A box of halves=$500, quarters=$500, dimes=$250, nickels=$100 and pennies=$25. Each box is made up of 50 rolls of coins. You can get boxes of coins from the banks (with luck, without any fee for the "service"), but Brinks, Loomis, etc won't deal directly with you. Happy hunting!

Welcome Meagan. For example my Credit Union charges $3 per box of half dollars. That means you need to find one silver coin per box to break even. Some banks do not like to get volume back from you so you may need to be creative. Good Luck.

At my bank I call ahead and order 4 to 8 boxes of cents a week in advance and my bank gets String & Sons rolls. You should never take back the searched rolls to the same bank you get them from as a general rule. Good luck fellow roll hound John1

So I went to the bank and got a box of pennies. Apparently a brand new box of pennies lol. Oh well guess I'm not out anything but how am I to return $25 worth of rolled pennies with Loomis packaging lol.
I try not to take back the rolled pennies back to the bank I got them from but its becoming harder as most of the bank won't take or give rolls of coins unless you bank with them which I find odd. I thought money was money but apparently not.

Some banks, instead of issuing rolls in squared boxes, just give you blocks of rolls.

Quote: Yea next time I will just get rolls of pennies instead of a box Well ya you can do that but sometimes you can run into problems. For example the customer wrap rolls could have already been searched. I live in a small town and know there are other roll hunters and have been skunked a couple of times. All the copper cents gone or each cent lined up obverse. But sometimes have good finds from people who have no clue. As John said, do not return the coins back to the same bank. I did this once and the teller a few days later gave me my own marked rolls back to me lol. Now I get the Fed Wrap boxes or courier boxes and ask for old cents only. The tellers know me and now know what I want. It is all in the thrill of the hunt and plain luck.

so they also have boxes that are old coins? I got $5 worth of coins the other day and 6 out of the 10 rolls were wheat pennies and 1 even had a Indian cent. I was excited and wished I had gotten more but the bank had already closed.

They won't have "boxes that are old coins" but they may sometimes have limited amounts of customer-wrapped rolls ("CWR"). Those can be more productive than bank boxes but they can also be a double-edged blade, as those rolls may have already been searched. Don't underestimate the # CRHers in your area.
I've found small #s of CWRs are sometimes most productive, but other times they'll be a zilch... Watch out especially for CWRs that are marked with one or more X's on the side. I've never found anything in one of those; I think that's a sure sign that means "CRHer has been here."
Above all else---as said above, do your pick-ups at one bank and your dumping at another (preferably not just a different branch, but a different bank and preferably not close to your pickup bank).
On picking up... I get to know the person (generally head teller) who orders the coins and place my orders directly and a week in advance by phone with him/her. They like that kind of consideration--and if what you ordered gets loused up or just doesn't show up, be 120% patient and cool w/ it. He/she will be shocked by your courtesy/understanding/patience and will be your friend forever.
When you do your dumping... Banks generally ship out coins in these quantities---Halves=$1K; Quarters=$1K; Dimes=$1K; Nickels=$200; Pennies=$100. If you do your dumping in those quantities as well as preferably early in the day and early in the week, your dumped coins will most likely get shipped out quickly for processing and rerolling. This helps ensure that you won't be rehunting your own dumps later.

Well I dont usually get coins in those kind of quantities
$25 in pennies is the most I've gotten lol
Like I said I have had trouble taking the coins back to banks. They for some reason want me to have an account even if I just want cash back for $20 worth of coins

That's because you are costing them time and money, that they could put to use better serving their account holders.

Well I figured they would be courteous to all people in hopes of gaining customers. But that is besides the point. I will just take it back to my bank or spend them

Sorry---I didn't even think to mention it above... I only pick up and dump at banks where I'm an account holder. Banks are in business to make money and they don't make any money by extending courtesies and services to non account holders. I count myself lucky and happy that my banks don't charge for getting me boxes. Many CCF CRHers have to pay a per box fee (which, if I ever face that, will be the final day of my CRHing period). You really do need to have accounts at your pickup and dump banks (or credit unions). It's pretty much a necessary part of playing this game.
