can anyone point me in the direction of reading material which would help me to learn to grade better? I'm particularly looking for something dedicated perhaps to a couple of coins - shillings & pennies and what to look for when grading each coin.
Most British coin catalogues give a very basic run down of the British grading system, advising to look at the details of the hair etc etc.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olS38qrVlrU This link gives a basic walk through of the international grading system (there is some difference though, British are pessimistic and Americans optimistic in general)
If you search "coin grading" there are also guides to the Sheldon scale (1-70 style American grading)
