I decided to return to a spot I had hunted back in 1990. This didn't pan out so I moved down the street and noticed there was a large field which had been cleared. It was always an overgrown mess.

While detecting I stumbled upon three dead and mutilated deer hidden near a small tree line. These were in different stages of age from a very young (tiny) to young adult (about 100 pounder). About 10 paces over I found three more dead deer. These too had been mutilated or butchered in a sadistic way. Then about 3 minutes later I found a few pieces from a rabbit.

This is in an area that has no wild predators (except man). I believe this was a place for ritualistic killings and when they mowed it down they exposed their sick camp.

You never know what you'll find when you go detecting. Be Careful out there and don't forget your .45

It might be a good idea to call this into the police.

Yikes... Crazy! That's quite the interesting find...
I definitly agree on calling the police... Or environmental police/game warden... Even animal control...
That's definitlely really creepy! Lol, what a site to find who knows what kind of sick things people could do these days...

O, and I absolutely agree on carrying a pistol! Everywhere (legally) I can, I do... Your story is a perfect example of never knowing what you'll run into.. I'd rather be prepared than end up next to those deer...

I find dead deer carcasses ALL the time when I am out detecting. Could be Hemorrhagic Disease which is apparently killing off many deer this year.

jerseyben,

I have found deer skeletons before but never found six scattered within 25 feet of each other plus they were skinned, dismembered and quartered. They had been dead for at least 6 months maybe more. They could have been dumped there too. Poachers? Why kill baby deer? Veal?

About 23 years ago we found a similar site about 1 mile north on the other side of the main street (Route 60). At this location we found the remains of 1 dead goat, 1 dead chicken and an old campfire. That site was a little creepier. The devil worshippers are very big in this area. Spoiled rich kids with too much money and cults galore. I guess it's something to do when Occupy Wall Street is not in session.

I've run into this before. It sounds to me like someone has been poaching. They butcher the deer for the meat and have to dispose of the carcass somewhere. Call your state's DNR poaching hotline and report it. The police won't care as much as the DNR will.
