So I have decided to sell some of my duplicate coins to upgrade in some other areas. I listed some of my LWC extras on Craigslist to see if I could get anything. I got a response from a guy who was a little, well odd to deal with. He was very generic with his requests (I sent him a list of what I had available and he just said he wanted 55 coins). He was a little slow to communicate with and even harder to get to set up a mutually acceptable place to visit. I figured it was just a craigslist thing. Anyway yesterday I said I had pulled aside 55 wheats and was ready to meet him at a public location I had picked. He responded quickly and said that would work. I asked if there was anything else he was looking for as I have other things for sale. Then my confusion was explained - he was a 13 year old boy who was just getting into coins. He said he didn't have much money but wanted to get some old coins to get his collection going. I was excited to help him out so instead of just grabbing 55 coins I put them in a Whitman Folder and tried to get a good range of dates. I also threw in a couple of steelies as I figured a new collector would like those. I then threw in a BU 1950 LWC figuring he would really enjoy a nicer quality coin. Met up today for the exchange. He came with his Grandpa which I thought was great - especially because my Grandpa is the one who got me interested and because I now have his collection. We all talked for a bit and I explained what else I had thrown in. He seemed really excited about the bonus coins. Hopefully I helped foster a young collector! It was fun doing it too!

Awesome! I have do similar things like that. I am able to get low grade IHC's (G-F)and Buffalo's for for $7 a roll. I will go through them and pick a few for myself, and the rest get donated to local scout troops and other kids organizations so as to help the scouts get a merit badge and to hopefully foster and interest in collecting among the others. I have given coins to over to over 300 kids and I know that at least 6 are now collecting on a regular basis. This is one time that I consider a less than 2% success rate a true success.

Good work! I'm a young collector and I know its things like this that get us hooked - for me, it was a dealer giving me a great price on some beaten up romans.
