In 1998 the RCM issued a set of coins to mark its 90 th anniv. The 4 coins in the set are Sterling silver and have a matte antique finish. The reverse of the coins uses the same design as their 1908 counterparts except for the double date 1908-1998. What the mint didn't take into account was that on the 1 cent coin the word Canada was on the obverse of the 1908 coin, and when they used the normal obverse design for 1997 Canadian coins Canada did not appear anywhere on the coin. This is the only Canadian coin that does not have Canada on it. When the ommision was pointed out, the RCM issued another set, this time in proof, with Canada added. 1908 was the first year Canada had minted its own coins.
