1902 Barber Half With Counter Stamp

HOWEVER, that W is REALLY obnoxious. 20 bucks or so. If it were a 1914 or 1915 then I might actually pay some money for it. Report this Post to the Staff
Gyrene7483 Pillar of the Community United States 1704 Posts	Posted 12/31/2012 11:21 pm Why it was stamped with the W will probably remain a mystery but, whoever stamped this coin couldn't have put it in a worse position on the coin, VERY distracting. As the stamp appears to be well-centered, I'm inclined to suspect that its application was purposeful, other than whimsy. It may have been done to salt a collection or accumulation of silver coins. This was sometimes done for identification purposes in the event of a theft. Such coins stand out ... Of course, there are other possibilities. Report this Post to the Staff

ray123 New Member United States 30 Posts	Posted 01/02/2013 2:07 pm I forgot to mention that I bought this coin from a seller in Australia and this was the only U.S. coin that he had, the rest were Australian coins. I some how thought it looked some what unique. Report this Post to the Staff
