First thing that came to mind was SALVATION ARMY KETTLE drop. We hear about it every year, usually Double Eagles, but... Could also be a good way of getting rid of counterfeit coins/paper as well.

Hello,
I cannot imagine this event being anything but an unfortunate accidental mistake on the part of the individual who possessed this coin while it was in the roll.

Maybe the depositor thought it was fake and actually believed they were shorting the roll by using it.  |

Im not gonna hate on that dude that's an amazing find. Someone here in anchorage did a drop in a veterans box and it was a gold coin. The only odd thing I found in a roll was a washer from a tool box.

in the lowest grade its a 250 dollar coin and it has a nice mint mark on it what is the best value on this.

If it were mine, I would buy a bezel ring and wear that puppy like a badge of honor. Or, you could sell it to me and I'll wear it for you  . Nice. |
