If I've interpreted the date and denomination correctly on this coin, it was printed in 1884 (Arabic 1293 + 19) and is 5 of something. Though similar in appearance to the 5 kurus Turkish coins I've seen on the Internet, it has no star patterns in it, only flowers. The Arabic 5 denomination figure marked on one side is large, and takes the place of script I've seen on other 5 kurus coins of the Ottoman Empire. The symbols surrounding that (Arabic script?) "5" don't appear to me to be saying "kurus" or "para", and since the coin isn't gold, it can't be a lira. It doesn't seem to be made from gold or copper or brass or tin. It could be silver, I suppose.

What can you tell me about this coin?

I may have to upload the opposite side of this coin some other way......

Since I can see only one side I could be wrong but it seems you have a coin from Egypt, 5/10 qirsh (or half-kurus).

The highlighted number is the regnal year, 13, so the date would be 1293 + 13 - 1 = AH 1305, which would be AD 1887/8

Both of your pictures were named "image.jpg". If you download two pictures with the same name on the same day, the second one over-writes the first. So I've gone and deleted your "side 2" thread, since it had the same pic as this one.

Be that as it may, from your description, it does indeed sound like you have a 5/10 qirsh from Egypt, as linked to by svslav.

Turkish-5-Kurus?

This is the other side of the coin. I hope it displays okay.
I will investigate Egyptian coins, as you both suggest.
Thank you.

I just found a coin on ebay, looking similar to mine, but of an apparently different color. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Egypt-Coppe...em5aecd198cd
The date stamp on it looked like a different number, but I can't be sure. The seller labeled it as: Egypt Copper-Nickel Coin 1884 AD Five Milliemes Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II XF. I'm going to continue to look around the Internet now that - as you've suggested- it is apparently from Egypt.

Thanks again.
