This is misleading advice. A copper plated zinc cent is supposed to weigh 2.5 grams but because of the allowed tolerance range they can weigh anywhere from 2.4 to 2.6 grams. Now the copper plating weighs about .05 grams so a non-plated cent could weigh as much as 2.55 grams which is MORE than the official weight of a copper plated piece. In fact expect in the case of a zinc planchet at the bottom end of the tolerance range all of the non-plated cents will be within the tolerance range. So "less" than what? Also a cent that has been altered to remove the plating will also weigh "less".

I just posted exact quotes from the magazine article.

I answered the posters question with what I have found, and also noted where this information was obtained from for others to verify, and If any information published in any type of numismatic literature is incorrect or misleading, and I post it here on CCF, an open discussion benefits all.
