Ordered the specimen set and the uncirculated set.

Think I will pass on the silver proof set this year at least for now. My interest in that set is keeping my loonie and $2 collection complete. Hopefully will be able to get those two coins at a decent ebay price from someone who breaks up the set for resale.

Thanks, CC-Ottawa!

Ordering now Go7, Arctic SD - for the design and theme - it's our Canadian.

Inukshuk, due to it's symbolization could be "giftable" coin - but will buy via PO, when will see it in personal.

But snake again? Which country this time ordered this production?

Don't see much that I like. The proof set is a bit pricy without the penny. The only one I like is The go7 coin but I don't collect the series. The snake is not bad for 1/2oz. May sit this one out

Thought the same about the snake but I think the unique finish will be interesting and the design is very eye catching IMO. At 34mm, it's a decently sized coin and the mintage of 18888 is reasonable, assuming that it is only issued by the RCM.

The maroon clamshell packaging is disappointing...again.

I also passed on the fine silver proof set. Not worth $230. And disappointed in the 50k mintage on the specimen set but I doubt they will sell that many anyway.

The new snake has the lowest mintage among all of the RCM's silver snake coins this year, I ordered one as well as the new Go7.

Lostwords,
Why not to collect if you like it, really?

The previous coins still available just bit above issue price even at issue price.

Take a look here - there is box + 3 previous coins:
(The seller has reduced the price several times)

The proof set is at higher mintage than last year. This year it is 25,000. Last year it was 20,000 and it had a hard time selling out. In fact, Gatewest discounted it last week.

The specimen set is also at higher mintage of 50,000 compared to the 40,000 of last year.

Did not buy any of the coins on sale today because they are poor investment. Mintage is too high for any them to go any higher than list. But if you are not into investment and just want to enjoy the coins, they are fine to buy.

I am only intersted in the fine silver proof set for the loon and 5 cent.

What do you guys think I could sell the remaining coins from the proof set for? There has got to be some people that want the gold plated silver dollar without having to pay $230 to get it.

Silveroid: I started collecting late last year so I missed out on the first group of 7 coin and subscription. I only like the latest 2 (so far). I almost pick up Carmichael last week when GW had it on sale. I just check ebay and saw a cheaper set with the case: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-group-...em4d08545a0a Still can't convince myself to pick it up.

cc-ottawa: agree with the snake about the clamsell case, but at least this one doesn't make the coin looks small and the design is not bad. Good point about mintage. Convinced my self to order one. :D

I wanted fine silver 50c, so bought it from the previous for $35 shipped.
And I believe, that Canada Dollar collectors will want to buy the gold plated one.

I like the design of the Canadian Arctic Expedition silver dollar, though it is a bit reminiscent of the 2007 Polar Year $20 coin. From the images, the selectively gold-plated version of the commemorative dollar in the silver proof set looks especially nice.

Interesting that they upped the mintage on the silver proof set from 20,000 in 2012 to 25,000 this year (and raised the price $5.00). I realize that the 2012 set did eventually sell-out, but I agree with others in believing that a good part of its appeal was the selectively gold-plated silver one cent piece that it included. This year's set doesn't include a one cent coin or feature any other truly "special" coins â€" makes me wonder how popular such a pricey set will be.

I plan to pick up a proof and BU Arctic dollar from the Mint, but I haven't decided yet whether I'll order the gold-plated version (in the proof set) directly from the RCM or wait for an individual dollar coin to become available on the secondary market. I don't collect any of the other coins in the set, so it's tough to pay a premium for them.

For the 2012 silver proof set when you add up the resale of the individual coins (using ebay sold prices) the total came close to the $225. That included the special penny at around $70.

Without the penny this year, it remains to be seen if the demand for the individual coins will be high enough to cover the cost of the entire set - especially when there are an extra 5,000 sets out there this year.

My estimates for the individual coins based on the 2012 set are as follows - although the first ones listed for sale will be likely higher until the dust settles from the new release:

Commemorative dollar $90
Toonie: 25
Loonie: 30
50 cent: 15
25 cent: 10
Dime: 7
Nickel: 9

That only totals to $186. Without the loonie and nickel you would be looking at around $147, leaving the loonie and nickel costing you $83.

Just my speculation.....I could be way off....but if I were going to do it, I would put the other coins up for sale or pre-sale right away to get the best price.
