Without a mind to get these, some passing thoughts:
Poured bars/ingots are probably the oldest way to lump bullion PM together. Are refiners still making these and at what masses?
Extruded and stamped bars get you a standard shape and mass, but they to start as an ingot, though, so you have to have extra steps before these are made.
Wouldn't Poured bars/ingots be the most cost effective to produce and buy?

I think Monarch may be close to the only refiner still putting out poured bars.
As for production costs---I suspect the extrusion process is likely less costly than pouring. I think the hassle of getting a poured bar to the exact right weight is where the production expense piles up, while extrusion/stamping enables mechanized and therefore fast, inexpensive mass production at pretty precise specified weight.

I think Scottsdale Silver started doing poured bars late last year.

There are quite a few companies making them but they're mostly small operations, I think.

@auptpdag---Who else puts poured bars out these days?
My preferences in silver bars seem to be evolving. I recently moved out of "cheapest is best" and into 10oz Engelhards and I think I may be headed toward another move soon -- this time into poured bars, probably with a preference for the older loafs.....
Anyhow, I'm anticipating where I'm probably going over the next year or so... Toward that end, I'd like to be more aware of poured bar makers than I am today. Any help and info you could contribute to that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info.

@oldgold--Thanks for that one. They're there and the prices aren't bad, but the free shipping is for the extruded bars and not the poured ones. Oh, well--- I guess "...two out of three ain't bad..."
If anybody else has any other info on current poured bar makers, please post it. Thanks.

Fat Freddy - why not buy generic extruded bars and melt and pour them yourself? A lot of schools and colleges have foundries capable of metal work - my school certainly does.
Of course, I doubt you could charge premium for self poured bars...

@benbyfield---Wow!! You really saw right through me with that one!!
As fate would have it....I've been thinking about doing a summer session bronze-casting course and working in silver casting. Not sure if I'll end up doing it, though---that kind of thing would be a pretty costly leisure pursuit...
However---if silver continues like it's been going for the last 4 months and totally tanks I'll definitely be back in there with the kids, doing silver castings.

my thing is, these bars are neat, dont get me wrong. But say you want to parcel out things and most you have is bars,,, I think it would be better to keep everything in coins, fractionals.

It would really depend on the size of the bars. Sure if all you had was 100 ounce bars it might be tough to sell a few ounces, but if you mix in 1, 5 and 10 ounce bars it should be no harder to move than ASEs.

Silvertowne is currently offering free shipping on all orders. Not sure how long it will last, just saw it last night on their site but it does say limited time only under it. I just used it to pick up a 5 oz poured myself.

I wonder if that free shipping applies to Canadian orders too. Finding cheap shipping to Canada for silver is such a pain.

kavern23, according to their website, Silvertowne says they ship to Canada at the standard US rate plus $10. So, maybe there is a flat rate of $10 to ship to Canada with this promotion? I'm not sure. . .
