Just throwing out another acquisition into my World silver accumulation;   I really miss the feel and sound (the ringing sound of flipping the round) of silver, so this was a good choice IMO. |

The Mexican Onza is an OK coin but when it comes to Mexican 1oz silver bullion coins, my heart belongs to the Libertad. I really like the winged angel
artwork and the degree of relief the coin has. The legend behind the angel and mountain artwork (Wikipedia has the story) is pretty cool, too.
I'd love to have one of those 5oz Libertads, but I can't hack that $10/oz premium.

@oih82w8---Your slabbed Lib is WAY spiffier than mine. I've got a number of early 80's Libs but they must've spent years in a nasty atmosphere, because they're quite heavily toned.

loool: Slabbed bullion... What is the point? They all look like that freshly minted.
Liking the Onza. Sterling. Different. I don't know if I would go as far as to call it bullion, though. Alloy, yes. Bullion? It's not "fine" silver. Too much copper present. I still like it.

Why isn't it bullion? It has a higher silver content than the gold percentage in a gold eagle bullion coin.

Why slabbed bullion? I consider it protection from the elements and handling. And when you can get these for close to spot, why not? Besides, they compliment my slabbed 7070 collection!  I am keeping the OP round raw, because I like to feel and sound of it.  Edited by oih82w8

@oih82w8---You raise a very good point about slabbed bullion---the point being about slabbed bullion that is purchased for the regular price.
I have a few slabbed pieces that were slabbed when I bought them for the standard going price for the piece in question. They're pedestrian
bullion specimens and I can't imagine why somebody paid perfectly good money to have them graded and slabbed, but they didn't cost me
any extra, so now I have a few unusually well-protected pieces of bullion that didn't cost me anything extra.

Fat Freddy, I picked up a complete set of NGC MS69 silver eagles the same way. The dealer was asking the same price for them as his raw eagles (he wanted $3 extra for the 1996). I had the extra space and there are obviously people who value them more when graded, so why not?

Unless you live in a shoe box and have limited space, I'd take graded/slabbed over raw whenever the price is at or near bullion. It's a no brainer.

@sdcrow---Wow! Your "who cares if they're slabbed" score far exceeds mine! If I'd ever seen anything like what you described, I'd have snapped that up
in the blink of an eye---even if it was necessary for me to use a credit card to do so (and that "no buying bullion on credit" thing is a line I haven't crossed
yet and don't intend to cross). Congrats on a great score!
@mds308---I have limited space available, but slabs aren't all that big and so I'll still grab slabbed for regular price any time too...

I only ever buy raw ASEs as well, but I did get a PCGS MS70 2011 S for christmas :)

I have 1 Libertad in a Littleton plastic holder. Paid just a bit under spot. I never saw the Casa De Moneda before. Like they say in Spanish:
Mi Casa De Moneda Es Su Casa De Moneda.
