I have an assortment of currency and do not know where to begin in assessing value. So far I haven't stumbled across anything equivalent to coin resources, such as PCGS's picture grades or fair market value charts-- surely some comprehensive online resource exists?

What are your favorite online resources for currency?

Thanks John! What about other grades-- that link shows values for 'average circulated grades' of F-XF and uncirculated. I have a lot that is less than F. Do I have to just check ebay, Heritage, and other online sales sites? Any recommended resources for Confederate currency? Republic of TX currency?

I would recommend "A Guide Book of United States Paper Money" by Friedberg. That is the standard reference. Sadly, it won't help on the TX or confederates. But it is good for just about everything else.

For the Confederate stuff try "Confederate States Paper Money" by George Cuhaj and also "A Guidebook of Southern States Currency" by Hugh Shull. The Shull book in particular is really good for identifying the Texas notes and the Cuhaj book has values down to grades of Good. Those Texas notes are really collectible and Confederate notes are always popular. I specialize in collecting Southern states fractional so let me know if you have any and I can probably give a "close to" value.

I agree the Friedberg book is like the Bible of US currency, I believe all real dealers use it, and the 19 edition has the confederate notes listed along with the US notes, all in color.

Just a thought, try going to your local library instead of buying the books.
