Valerian I Billon Antoninianus- RIC 128C This is the seller's image and attribution. Once this coin arrives it will be my 50th Roman Imperial emperor. Here is some history straight from Wikipedia Quote: Valerian (Latin: Publius Licinius Valerianus Augustus;[1] 193/195/200 â€" 260 or 264), also known as Valerian the Elder, was Roman Emperor from 253 to 260. He was taken captive by Persian king Shapur I after the Battle of Edessa, becoming the only Roman Emperor who was captured as a prisoner of war, causing instability in the Empire. This coin is partly a Christmas gift. What I had left over from the other stuff I got went to this coin. Go ahead if you wish, post your Valerian I coins in celebration! I don't mind.

Quote: 50th Roman Imperial emperor My favourite Valerian rumour from after his capture: Quote: Nothing more was ever heard of Emperor Valerian, other than a disturbing rumour by which his corpse was stuffed with straw and preserved as a trophy in a Persian temple.

Great coin Gil-galad. I'm starting to appreciate those with nice centering and complete legends.

I remember when you picked that provincial coin up. Very nice. One of these days I'm going to collect a few provincial coins.

Yeah, I showed it off when I bought it. I like the 3D effect on the reverse most of all. I like provincial coins because there are so many interesting and differing reverses. With most Imperial coins, the reverses begin to all look much alike as opposed to the provincial coinage. Still, your coin is nicely center and pleasing to look at.

Gosh - I need a valerian - he's certainly got one of the more interesting back stories. Perhaps get a Shapur too - I see them on ebay every once in a while. And congrats on 50! I'm at a measly 22 logged rulers...I hope I can bring that number up a bit

At nearly 2 years I'm at 57 Roman rulers (Caesars, empresses, etc included), plus 4 Byzantine emperors and 1 (soon to be 2) Germanic ruler, so I think I've done pretty good so far.
