Hi fellow members,

I am not sure if this coin is an error? If it is, what kind of error is this? I received it in change a number of years ago, and kept it as it looked interesting.

Thank you.

Here are the pics...

The obverse looks like something may have happened at the mint. The photos are ok but need to be clearer to really see what happened.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've attached additional photos using the iPad camera. Clicking on the photos enlarges it just a bit.

If you remove one staple from the holder, you can slide the coin out and set it on the outside for a clearer photo.
I do this everytime I take pictures on coins in this type holder.

It could be a flawed planchet.
A strike through would have missing beads and lettering.
What ever it is, it's one of a kind.

Did you clean it?
I am thinking it lived under the floor mat of a car for a salty Canadian winter.

I have taken the coin out of the 2x2, and I have used a sony camera for the pics. A background... I don't collect error coins, but a few years back, I did show this to a collector/dealer in Vancouver who had a table at various coin shows in Vancouver and New Westminister, named Paul Johnson who is knowledgeable in errors. He said it was an error, but I didn't write what type it was. He was the person that placed the coin in the 2x2 with corner staples.

Here's more photos:

I am trying to remember what the dealer, Paul had said back then... I think he said it was a lamination error.

Looks like post-mint corrosion to me, even the finer details are affected, including the denticles and beads.
