The obverse looks like something may have happened at the mint. The photos are ok but need to be clearer to really see what happened.

If you remove one staple from the holder, you can slide the coin out and set it on the outside for a clearer photo. I do this everytime I take pictures on coins in this type holder.

It could be a flawed planchet. A strike through would have missing beads and lettering. What ever it is, it's one of a kind.

Did you clean it? I am thinking it lived under the floor mat of a car for a salty Canadian winter.

I am trying to remember what the dealer, Paul had said back then... I think he said it was a lamination error.

Looks like post-mint corrosion to me, even the finer details are affected, including the denticles and beads.
