China---Tang-Dynasty---É–‹å…ƒé€šå¯¶-Kai-Yuan-Tong-Bao

e-‹å.ƒe€šå¯¶ Kai Yuan Tong Bao (The Inaugural Currency). 718 - 732 AD.

This is the coin that was minted through most of the Tang Dynasty, which was about 300 years. According to what I've been reading, there was a lot of regulations concerning the minting of these coins. Including forbidding citizens from minting coins. Penalty was execution.

Well, this is the very last coin I purchased. I am waiting for them to come in the mail next week sometime, hopefully.

Not a problem. I'm glad that you like them. I have one or two to get next month, maybe. We shall see.

I eagerly await to see you next Chinese coins. This is such a vast series of coins, and to the untrained eye they all look similar across thousands of years. Neat background information.

Interesting! What I find amazing is how long the style of these coins persisted--almost 2000 years, right? That has to be a record.

Tang coins are fairly common and are usually well made.
For a coin that is 1,300 years old, they can be had very cheaply.

Right on that. I did not pay too much for this coin and since the characters are well preserved and the coin is a decent cast, I got it.

I also made a new gallery in my photo album here for ancient to medieval Chinese coins.
