07/01 49 BC Senate demands that Caesar disband his armies and give up his command in Gaul; Caesar refuses. Thus beginning of the Second Civil War. The Senate wanted Caesar to give his army to a new general, but when he heard this news on 7 January 49, in Ravenna, he refused and started planning to invade Italy. He crossed the Rubicon on 10 January as he advanced towards Rome.

08/01 317 AD Valerius Valens executed by Licinius. Surviving written evidence suggests that Valerius Valens was a Caesar, but we know that this rank was elevated to Augustus due to the legends on his coins. He was named Augustus by Linicius after the first civil war between he and Constantine I, probably to preserve his loyalty.

In the years that followed, Constantine, was still more powerful than Linicius. He forced Linicius to recognize him as his Emperor and depose Valens on 317. Linicius executed Valerius Valens on 8 January, 317.
