Does this look like a problem free coin to you guys? What are your opinions on the actual grade?

The color looks right and appears to be problem free to me. It may grade MS-63+ RB possibly as high as MS-64 RB but no more.

Hello,

Do these two side-by-side sectional photos of similar 1866 Two Cent coins appear acceptably the same to everyone?

1866-Two-Cent-Piece

The one on the right is from the aforementioned ebay photo.

The darker one on the left is from a NGC-graded 1866 PF MS 64 RB which sold back on Oct 2, 2007 at HA for $676.20 incl BP.

I am leaning towards a fake on this one without it in hand I can't be sure but the first maker I see fails the berry stem on the far left should be slightly curved.
If its real its been chemically cleaned..

Frankly, I do not trust this seller any farther than I could throw him. He offers third-world slabs at exorbitant prices, as if they were gems. He's asking MS65 money for this coin; if it were a genuine MS65 it'd be in a slab you can trust.

But it's not. I won't even go so far as to assume the surfaces are original, much less attempt a grade.

There is a good sized staple scratch from the date off to the left. I also think this coin has been treated chemically though it's one of the more natural looking ones I've seen, I'd love to check this out in hand along side some of my MS RD and RB slabbed 2¢ pieces. I'd bet the surface luster has been altered via a bath or dip in some solution. If they are recoloring the coin they are doing a fantastic job, though I have a feeling it's all in the photography and light/temp adjustments in processing. I know the auction ended, but I'd spend my money on a slabbed PCGS only coin in high end 2¢ the others TPG just don't seem be all that consistent on this series, IMO.

Westcoin, do you have any slabbed 2 centers for sale? Looking for ms63 or 64 range, RB or better. I'm looking at this one right now:

Don't know if it's his photos or not but for a RB coin it does have a lot of red in it. RB coins can vary a lot in redness I have noticed. Some don't look that great. Of course I would try to talk him down on price on this one.

I'm not selling any of my Two Cent Pieces. That one in the link does look pretty nice though and the price is right on.

Hi,

What is the most consistently-updated, accurate, and reliable on-line resource for varieties and errors of 2 cent coins, including illustrative photos.

Thanks,

I had a website that attempted to do that in the mid 1994-7 took it down as so much information had changed. Plus I didn't want to infringe on copyrighted material from Kevin Flynn. The only other guy that deals in a lot of variety Two Cent Pieces is Frank Leone from New York http://www.1793.com He is a great guy to do business with and very honest, at least in all my dealings with him over the past couple of decades.

Hmm... I thought the coin looked alright but I guess not. Was there something in particular that gave this coin away as being recolored?
