I just can't seem to figure out why this would be a VF25? I'm very new to the colonial peculiarities of grading, can someone throw out a helping hand please? Thanks! :)

my most logical guess is due to overall population of the type

the fewer there are overall yet the examples that do exist in what specific grade adjust how you bell curve the grading...

VF would be a NET GRADE due to corrosion......it actually has AU details

PCGS goofed on this one. The coin has obvious AU Details, and upper end at that.
What you are seeing here is mostly corrosion with some underlying planchet flaws.
This should have been in a genuine holder.
