A little over a year ago I had a little trouble with my heart and I had to have a Pacemaker put in..Since then I've been afraid to use my Detector because of the magnetic field ,force..The book I got with the Pacemaker said to keep it no closer than 24 inches from your chest..Anyone know anything about this ?

i had a defibrillator put in almost 8 years back, brought a metal detector , ace garret, 10 months or so back and I have yet to notice any affect from the metal detector, but I would say 3 time out of 7 I do stop because I'm not feeling 100%, I put it down to all the bending and standing, but it could be the magnetic field contributing.
would be a bit harder with pacers in the right shoulder, I only say that as when I am squatting at the dig spot I have the coil on my right side, and its away from my defib, in the left shoulder.
to be honest from my reading and questions asked, keep it as far away as you can, but I dont think the detector can interfere with the box unless it is extremely close. powerful magnets are the ones I avoid at all costs.

Thanks for the info. Its still winter here with snow on the ground so I'm not to concerned but I do want to start using the detector again .I thought about making a shield from a thin sheet of lead, that I could wear like a shoulder holster ..My pacemaker is on my left side too.

"Blessed are the pacemakers"

Should not be a problem, otherwise they could not be used.
Remember there must be more that a million of them currently in use around the World by now.
Just heed any warnings that go with it.

Good question. How about metal parts and arm/leg pins, titanium made. How it would be with the metal detector?

I have a steel hip,my mate use to horse around by swinging his detector around my left bu..m cheek,he really thought it was great fun.
U can use a coil anywhere and the hip doesn't interfere with any type of detecting or coil size this I know from experience.

Don't forget to
swing low and slow
and be safe

Happy hunting

Oh P.S. it's now called
a hip reconstruction

You probably won't find much trying to metal detect using a pacemaker. Okay, all joking aside, I don't think it would cause a problem unless you put it up to your pacemaker. Just keep it to the ground and keep yourself upright and you should be good to go.
Rest in Peace

All these technicalities! And if us old geezers can't keep upright, well, that's why you use the buddy system.
