There is a lake that we go to that is not any kind of historical park or anything. Should it be a problem if I metal detect the campsites there or even a little by the shore for coins jewelry etc.?

When I read the title to this thread, I thought: 'Hmmm, interesting. Preliminary searching for scuba diving?. ! I have the answer! How about a P3 with a MAD boom in the tail? Now, THAT'S what you call a metal detector! You could search dozens of lakes within an hour or so.

I remember one time when I was about 8 years old. I was diving down as deep as I could, and bringing up a fist full of sand each time to prove I made it to the bottom. On one drive, I surfaced with a gold, diamond encrusted Rolex. I could see that it said ROLEX. I started shouting to my family on the shore, waving my arm in the air, showing them my treasure.
THEN... I dropped it!! Couldn't find it again.

That's depressing.

Lakes on state parks here in Michigan are ruled by the DNR. On websites, they list whats detectable and what's not. We are limited to the gravel parking lots...no turf, no beach. They also have jurisdiction over the water, which I'm sure is off limits too. Laws may vary in other areas.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

Every State have different rules the best way if you go to the local office of parks and ask... some places need a permit ... or you can check in the net for some clubs in the area , some times the publish good info about the rules around... or like I do , I go if some law enforcement ask me what I'm doing... my answer is all the time the same " my wife lost her ring " and wait what they say ...lol And yes you can get jewelry or coins in the lakes if they have visitors... I will go to the lakes around here the next week ... good luck to you...
