I'd like advice about whether to purchase a 4-coin set of the proof 2009 commemorative cents or to pick up a roll each of the uncirculated versions, in mint wrapping if I can get it. I love the Lincoln Cent and I want to pick up these four designs plus an 2009 uncirculated silver Lincoln half. I've also seen the half packaged with four proof cents. All advice is appreciated. What is a reasonable price for these items?

The four Lincoln cents with half purchased as a set will set you back between $150 & $175. Depending on what you want ebay can be a great source for getting cheaper if bought separately. I was able to snag all four of the cents in NGC PF69 slabs for under $20 shipped, but it took some time and patience to do that. But then again I have both P & D bank wrapped rolls, the mint set, proof set, 3 of the Lincoln anniversary sets, as well as several of the mint issued halves. I went a little overboard on them when they came out.

black jack, not to be trite, but I would say get all the above if you can. IMO for a set to be complete, it needs to have business strike as well as proof. Any other special packaging from the mint is a niceity, bot not a necessity.

I'm still buying 2009 coins as well. I would say that the Satin Mint Set and Proof set for 2009 are not too bad pricewise, and contain 95% copper coins. I would start there. You can snipe a 2009 coin & chronicles for just over $100 on ebay if you're patient. That would be my second move because you get the proof Lincoln commem, packaging and 4 lincoln proof cents in air-tites :) My experience with the business strikes thus far has been not great. I probably wouldn't recommend buying bank rolls if your picky...lots of spots on the coins.

Thanks for the help. I guess we always know what we need to do, but it's nice to have fellow collectors tell us it's okay. Yes, I will go for the half dollar, four proof cents, and get the P and D uncirculated. I won't be happy unless I have all of them. And I am seeing some good prices on ebay. I've bookmarked a couple of sellers. I haven't ever purchased through ebay, fearing what I will receive. But I guess I'll take a chance.
It's something how these commemorative issues have disappeared from circulation in the Northeast.
P.S. I think I have to agree with my wife: I'm getting to be a glutton. I don't know why I have to be obsessive all the time, but I'm not content to stay with the few U.S. types I intended to stick with. It's nice that I'm not going to get any resistance from all of you. This passion goes way back for so many of us. Thanks all!

Stopped into my LCS yesterday for the 2009 Lincolns. He's ordering the 2009 P&D Mint sets for me, both have the copper versions of the commemoratives. He advised me not to open the box when I get them.

Blackjack, LISTEN TO YOUR DEALER. I hunt these out of change at work with the intent of completing a full roll of each design, and I don't know what was up with the cents that year, but finding them WITHOUT black spots or discolorations, well . . . there's a reason I added the first coin in three months to one of my rolls last night. It just doesn't happen. Leave 'em untouched!

Yes, NIna, it won,t be easy to leave the box sealed, but I will try to do that. You know I will want to examine them. Oh boy! You are right. I cannotfind them loose or in rolls.

I bought the mint sealed box of the 2009 Lincoln a few months ago. So tempted to crack it open, but so far it remains sealed and in the safe.
