I have just posted an educational web site on the common commemorative type with legend CONSTANTINOPOLIS. It is a slightly revised version of an article I published in The Celator in 1996.

Take a look. Comments are solicited.

Excellent article. If only those coins were rare, the demand might be great. Who knows.

Nice article that augustus1 posted.

I just have a couple of quick comments.

I now wish I would of got this coin. The seller said it was silver plated and at the time I wasn't sure it was ligit. I was just beginning, didn't know anything about silvering and didn't pull the trigger. It went pretty reasonable though.

Here's a picture of a cool CONSTANTI NOPOLIS Medallion (Rome type legend). It's not my coin but I would love to have one
I wish I knew more about these things.
36mm sold for $8500.00

Some Constantinopolis mints are harder to find than others. For example, Aquila, especially in good condition, is hard to find. If you see one I'd say get it, or tell me about it.

Some officinae are extremely hard to find, even from the easier to find mints.

The reverse depicts the victory of Constantine's navy at the Battle of the Hellespont, which all the "Constantinopoli(s)" AE's commemorate.
