I have the Exact Change software to manage my collection. I'm curious if anyone here has any in depth knowledge. The support directly through the manufacturer is quick and reliable, but I'm looking to see if anyone else has any experience with it. The report tool so that you can view various aspects of the collection from silver value to profit/loss summary is quite impressive.
I use my own serial numbers to catalog all of my coins, and I would like to create a custom report that shows all of them. I'm just not sure if I can drag my feet through creating the custom report and learning database basics or if I should just stick with the generic reports that fill all of my needs except this one want.
Another question that I had is: If Frank creates his own custom report, can he share that report (not the output of the report, but the report itself) with Suzy so that she can run that report against her own collection?
The only drawback that I've really seen with Exact Change is that there is no forum through them that would allow users to converse. It seemed very odd. I'm still extremely happy with the product, but I would like a forum through them and an easier report creation tool.
Any thoughts? Edited by RES 01/10/2013 10:17 am

Hi RES
I Use EC to and I am very pleased with it. Making your own reports is not that difficult. I would suggest that you start by saving a predefined report with a new name and then starts changing this report to your liking. This will also give you an idea about how a report is designed. All reports can be moved/copied so yes to your question number two. You might have to restart EC when you have done something with the reports.

What reports have you written? I worked for a short while to create a report and then kind of let it go for a bit. I really need to get back to working on it.

I have made two reports. First report was based on the collection list report. I added pictures of the coin, changed some of the information shown in the report and rearranged layout. The second report I made was small inlays to my coin trays with some basic key informations.

So, I have been away from the coin collecting world for a good bit as work has taken me away. I have been using the Exact Change software a bit more lately. I've actually managed to build some of the different collections. What this program comes with is all of the different countries and you get to select which countries will be in your program. From there you can select which coins you have from that country, price you paid for them, condition, ect. Based upon that it will (of course) track your entire collection, value the collection (based off of current values or melt depending upon the coin/condition), and it can even provide a gain/loss of your collection based on purchase price vs current worth. Now, the new collection that I was able to create is that I've created a collection for my bullion. I can input my different rounds/bars with their content, size, and weight and then they are tracked for melt value as well.
I've fallen in love with this program. The only problem is that it allows me to upload pictures of coins as well. That's bad because now I have to go in and photograph my entire collection as well.

I have created some simple reports - that is just modifying existing ones. Each report is a separate file stored on your computer so we should be able to trade them. Try looking in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Exact Change\Reports
you will see a lot or '.rtm' files, each is a report. The easy way to create a new one is start with one that is similar, copy it and start modifying. You do have to restart EC each time you make a mod and want to view it.
I did have a problem with EC when I upgraded to Windows 8 and the support team was fantastic getting me back in operation.

EC has always been awsome. Their tech support has been spot on each time. Now though I'm just waiting for the 2014 Silver Eagles to populate out. Ill have to play around with the reports again soon. I love the fact though that I can pull a report for an entire coin and see which coins I still need for that series. I'm doing Jefferson nickels right now out of the snack fund at work so I keep a copy of my needed reports at work and when there is an old nickel I can figure out quickly if it is one of the ones that I need.

As with many coin collecting programs, they sort of become useless as your collection grows. Once you have several thousand coins, picture what you'll be doing.

Just Carl, that may be, but I'm also looking into having it set up so that when I pass my collection on to my family they will have a foundation of knowledge of what I had and what they are receiving. Granted when it gets that big I'll be moving my entire collection to a differnt location as my treasure chest won't hold it all. (Actually I just started chasing the prestige sets and I'm having space issues already.)
Honestly, I don't have a whole lot of income to throw into this hobby, so I don't expect to end up with the hundreds of thousands of coins.
