Yeah I know, 1937 is a very common date but after looking a hundreds of very low grade buffaloes I was shocked to see this coin in the bag. At first I thought it had been plated-- not entirely convinced that's not the case. There are no dings or rubs on it. I know it's hard to assess grade with this USB scope picture and glaring light. I might take pictures with the good camera some other time.

Anyway, I just wanted to post it so I can admire the shiny pretty coin

Nice MS63. It could be plated though.

This is a pretty good strike, look at the buffalo's head detail. The picture is pretty rough to tell if there is minor wear or how many tiny hits/marks are on the coin. This coin could go anywhere form AU-58 to MS-64 IMO, assuming it wasn't cleaned or tampered with.

Beautiful! I think if you weigh it it will let you know if its plated.or not. Should weigh 5 g. I'm not sure what the mints allowed variation was, tho I'm sure someone here does.

Nice! looks MS to me, esp. the reverse. Th Indian's hair is a little hard to tell from the pic, but that is nice.

Found this coin's mate, the 37-D in similar condition. Maybe they are from a broken-open mint set. If I find a shiny 37-S that'll clinch it.

I don't suppose the mint was kind enough to include a 3 Legs in the set

Very strong detail in most areas. They did issue proofs in 1937 and this coin does remind me of those however that mushy knot in the Indian's braid would almost certainly not occur on a proof.

I don't think you would be able to determine whether a coin was plated by weight. MS Buffalo nickels can be very bright and shiny so I would not automatically assume this one has been altered. I'd just enjoy it!

Great detail but surfaces may not be original - possibly a high AU coin that had some surface treatment
