Man I would love to have that coin in my collection C.T. The wheat heads are in good shape, all details are quite clear, I would guess V25 maybe 30 in person.

I'd say a strong VF20. Very nice coin! Mike

What should tell me that this coin has been cleaned? I need to learn how to spot such things!

Thanks,

Ed,
I respect your opinion, especially on Lincolns, but what do you see that leads you to think it is cleaned? I assume that it is the color; if it is I apologize, I Photoshopped the image to lighten it up and make the contrast of the details easier to see. Here is another image that is "un-played with" It is exactly what the camera saw. The color in hand is a medium-to-deep chocolate brown. I can't be certain that it's never ben cleaned since it was originally (in my family anyway) owned by my uncle and he died as a teen in the mid-sixties, and we all know that kids want to clean their coins

Anyhoo, let me know what you think.

On the original image, it looked much darker around the devices which could have indicated a past cleaning, but I don't see any evidence of cleaning. I stand behind my solid VF20 grade.

It was my first reaction to the color. Too much "rose-red" for the grade amd wear. I also looked at the color contrast between the hair and high points. Also on the reverse, the high wheat stalk's color were more lighter than the the rest of the coin's flat fields. A coin with this wear should pretty much have a even brown color. Any hints of rose-orange or bronze made me go hmmmmm.

I have a 1914-D that looks like this and everybody has told me it was more than likely from a past cleaning.

It was just my gut reaction to what I saw...hope I am wrong because any mint marks on Lincolns before 1918 are always nice in my book.
