One thing I never got about the $100,000 bill, was that, that bill still had "Legal Tender (In Gold, I believe) For All Debts Public And Private" Now, if these notes were never issued for the general public, why would it say Legal Tender In Gold For All Debts "Public AND "especially" Private"? as I thought that these notes were never intended for neither the public, nor the private sector of the people. Was it just law that the $100,000 bill "had" to have that wording on it? Also, aren't ALL "Orangebacks" illegal to own, be it a $100, a $1,000 or a $100,000 bill? I do know that these are Gold Certificates, and I know that, at least the $100,000 GC is illegal to own, and I had always heard that, if one were ever to go up for auction on the Black Market, the bidding would likely start at one million dollars.

(The only "Orangebacks we can legally use now, I believe, are our "current $10 bills") LoL!

I thought it was only the $100,000, $10,000, and $5,000 1934 and 1928 Gold certificates that were illegal. The were illegal because they never were cirulated to the public, therefore never leaving the federal reserves possesion. Any authentic example would be considered stolen.

I swear I just saw a $10 gold cert at auction witb an orange back. It was PMG graded. It was a large note tho.

I would like to take this time to thank my late grandparents for not listening to President Roosevelt when he ordered them and other Americans to surrender any gold coins and gold certificates they held to the government.

Below is one of two gold certificates they owned that will be passed down to my grandchildren (their great-great-grandchildren).

Broken-Coin, that's a beautiful specimen of the 1928 $10 G.C. Really amazing that it has been in your family all these years. Your grandchildren will hopefully become the next generation of currency collectors.
