Hi folks,

I was given a few coins from Afghanistan. Need a bit of help with confirmation of coin dates.

I think this coin is KM# 955 - 1961 5 Afghanis.
Afghanistan-Coin-Help-Needed

Does the date on this coin translate to 1961?

You are correct on both dates. The dates seems to be in Persian calender format (1340 and 1383). I have used below to interpret the Arabic numerals and convert Persian dates to gregorian

Brings back memories! I was spending these, when I was in Afghanistan, way back in 1970!
Much more peaceful place, then.

I helped drive an ex Sydney double deck bus form Bombay to London.
The body / coachwork was altogether different to the London buses of the time.
Besides, ours was converted to tables and seats below, and bunks above.
There were 5 girls and 9 fellas that made up our lot and we all friends and knew each other before the trip.
Strictly non commercial.

The bus spent most of it's working life on the Manly to Palm Beach Run.
You may wish to have fun looking that up on Google Maps!
As a teenager I spent many weekends on Sydney's Northern beaches, between Sydney Harbour and Broken Bay.

As you would expect the scenery in Afghanistan is totally different. Driving through the Kabul Gorge is one experience that is impossible to forget - dangerous road, but unbelievable scenery. The climb out of Kabul Gorge at 7 MPH took nearly two days.
