Hi, here is an 1894 Newfoundland 20 Cent piece from collection, which variety obverse do you think it is? Also, is there an easy way to tell on these?

OBV2
A number of markers are mentioned in Charlton's,in addition to those OBV1 has a rounded forehead while OBV2 has a sloped forehead.

So would this one be OBV1 then? I knew the two were different I just couldn't put my finger on what the difference was...

YES

While there are a number of differences in the two portraits the most obvious marker is the shape of the forehead.I don't know why Charlton's makes it seem so difficult. It may have something to do with copyright issues as the forehead difference is mentioned in other catalogues.
Thanks for the great pics jdmern

Wow, that forehead marker is great!!

How can someone copyright an observation of reality?

Charlton fails on the obv 1/2 25c too.
