I pulled this coin out of a roll the other day and it looks like the mint mark is a S with a E stamped over it pointing to the northwest under 60x maagnification. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It appears to be either PMD, or just a well placed Die Chip

I'm guessing the later. If there is an E or any other overmark, I don't see it in your photos.

It is a damaged D mintmark, only proofs of that year will have an S mintmark.

I'm going with die chip. Small die chip or PMD, both not worth any big premium.

Under magnification it doesn't even look like a D mint mark. it is possible to find proofs in circulation isn't it.just thought it was unique. thanks everyone!

Yes, it is possible to find proofs in circulation from someone breaking open a Proof Set and spending the coins but this 1979 is without a doubt a business strike.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I cant get a bigger scan so I will take it as a damaged mint mark and go from there.
