Hi everyone!
I recently came across a nice lot of 50 cent coins and found 9x 1982. I've been trying to figure out the difference between the small and large beads. All of my coins looked the same so from what I read one of the ways to tell is by counting the beads, 118 for large and 120 for small. What a painful process but might as well try, right? I looked at hair but I couldn't tell any of them apart.

All 9 counted out at 120. Really.... Does that actually mean that out of 9 coins I have 9 of the so called "rarer" variety?

Thank you! (first post and first attempt at attaching pictures)

Congratulations, you're the happy owner of 1 small bead and 8 large beads. On the top row, 3rd from left is small beads. Look at the queen's hair, it's more detailed. Also look at the jewels at the very front of the tiara, for the large beads, it's 2 equal sized jewels on top of each other, and for small beads, it's one larger on top of a much smaller jewel. The bottom of the bust is also different, rounded or pointed depending on variety.

Ok, I can see the difference in the hair now and the tiara jewels. It would then seem to me that counting the beads is not the way to check these coins since they have the same number of beads.

Here are some close ups of the small beads coin for your opinions on grade. I'm still trying to figure out how to take good pictures with the equipment that I have. (time to go read the hints section!)

Thank you!
