Im sure most of you have seen a coin counter that says something like... "Dont put Ike dollars in here.. if you do, ask a teller for help."

Where do they go? Is there a reject bin inside that we never get to see?
I recently managed to break a counter at my local bank and the teller had to open it up for me and fix it. I noticed a large bin filled with gum wrappers, slips of crumpled paper and other random pocket dwelling items including a full size ballpoint pen. No coins that I could see, but I didn't have a chance to go digging through it. Is that where Ikes would go if they made it into the machine?
Has anyone ever thrown an Ike in there on purpose so they could have the teller check for other things?

My guess is you didn't break it, you jammed it. Just like when paper mis-feeds into a printer. You have to open it up and physically remove the item causing the jam.

Yeah, it was just jammed. About $50 of my coins inside it at the time not accounted for though.. so that was awesome. I managed to get credit for everything though.

In de la rue machines (the company that makes most coin counting machines), large size dollars (and anything else much thicker or bigger than a half dollar) get stuck in a rotating collecting basin that is immediately beneath where you dump the coins in. The dollars are to big to move on to the sorter mechanism so they just keep floating around in the collection basin until someone cleans the machine. If you know what your doing you can fish them out with your fingers when the machine is running, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you've worked with such machines before professionally. I've pulled dozens of them out of machines personally as well as a Morgan silver dollar and various foriegn coins some silver (like those big 10% silver mexican pesos).
