Non Colorized, like the Lunar series.

What is the major difference between this series and the dragon one? IMO, PM is killing its business by issuing lame coins without paying enough effort to design though I still like its Opal and Map series .

Cheney - I guess it comes down to personal preference. The dragon series didn't capture my attention. I didn't like the images enough. However, I am wondering if the dragon in this series will be an English dragon instead of a Chinese dragon. I prefer the English form.
For the Mythical series, the first coin evokes a sense of reality to the creature. It's designed well enough to look like an authentic animal as opposed to a an imaginary, cartoon-like drawing. Plus the outer edge is a greek square spiral, the banner down the center completes the imagery well.
I hope the rest of the series maintains that similar sense of realism and overall design aesthetic.

I haven't seen any of these coins "live" but have a question: Do the colorized Perth Mint coins have engraved surfaces over which the color is applied, or is the color painted on a flat field? I'm not a colorized coin fan, but some of the coins put out by the Royal Canadian Mint have engraved surfaces under the color and are attractive.

The pad printing process requires a flat field, a "No Brainer" for the mint but that the printed coins are not as desirable as the pressed/minted coins. Any fool can cut and paste a design to a printer, It takes an artist to sculpture a coin design

I agree, not a fan of colored coins nor the process to make them. Gold plated/guilded is about as far as I go with color. I may have to buy the unicorn one though for my (very) soon to be wife.. She collects every and all things unicorn... Ya welcome to my world... Have the designs for them been shown yet? Umm.. I believe the dragons of legend series are mostly European dragons.. I have a "thing" for dragons like she does for unicorns.. (I also don't really like Asian dragons, although I love snakes, the dragons that look half snakeish don't impress me) But off the top of my head the Red Walsh, Bulgarian 3 headed as well as St Grorge and the Dragon are all European dragons... And I only remember 2 Chinese ones (again there could be more, that's just off the top of my head). If they wern't in color and engraved into the coin I would have bought them... But I believe that more of the dragons of legend series are European opposed to Asian...

The coin is pressed by the Perth Mint but it is a commissioned product by coin club Australia. The did dragons of legend and working dogs and wildlife in need.

Kel, Nope, that she doesn't! That was a US quarter!!? Wow! That's really nice! Did you make that?
TheUnicorn, Your wife has my girl beat at 300!! Wow.. That's alot of unicorns!! She's also really into the "trail of ponies" statues/figures, I have to admit some of those are really nice looking! My family has almost 30 horses (between our 2 paints, and 1 of my aunts has 22!! ... And the other 6 horses) and we've both grown up riding, both pleasure and shows: western pleasure, barrel racing, team penning (cattle) and my coisin profesionally trains horses for hunter/jumper, so horses are in our blood.. No unicorns though.. To bad.. I'd be rich, lol.
