just looking over some of my sets, and noticed the 2012 10c proof coin has what looks like a "i" just below and to the right of the signature. no pics as yet as I'mto shaky to hold the microscope in hand to get it and be able to see it. does not appear to be contact damage as such looking through the loupe, might be worth looking to see if others are the same.

full lustre in the dent, no edges or nicks to indicate PMD, I'mthinking something on the die?

It looks to me like it could be a "struck through" error. It appears that something (likely a very small piece of metal) fell into the coin striking chamber of the press and came between the die and planchet during the striking process; the errant piece was then pressed into the planchet to cause the indent seen on the finished coin.

I've seen examples in US proof sets, so it might have happened with this Australian set as well.

Geez Erkle that's a beauty.

Í have seen similar indentations on circulated coins and the complete lack of other damage has suggested to me that it was caused during minting rather than simply PMD.

But your one is living proof of such an instance. (pardon the pun).

I'll have to check and see if I've kept them now.
