Yes They Are!

Ok I saw these two in a large assortment auction and I know nothing about these 2 coins. I'm pretty darn sure they are fake but curious on everyone's opinions anyways. Sorry these are the only pictures available. Thanks!

They look OK to me. Your first coin is a Spanish silver piece. They came in various denominations from a half reale up to eight reales. The 1776 date is desirable. Your second coin is an old British copper halfpence. Both of these coins would have circulated freely in early America, due to the lack of small change in the early days of the US Mint.. Foreign silver was legal tender in the US until 1857. ~Jim

Not sure there's any reason they'd be fake--look like metal detector finds. I like 'em a lot!

OK so far I got 2 people to debunk my supposed genius. If they are indeed genuine any idea of a rough estimated value?

graceoutcast The first coin is definitely a counterfeit, but from the picture I can't be sure when it was made. The dentils above the III in the King's name are a dead give away as is the profile of old Charles himself. The weight and SG would go along way toward figuring out who made it.

I would bid on it as a modern forgery and limit my bid to $15 to $20. I would only go over that number if I got better information and could identify the source and date.

The English 1/2 d looks far better to me - but then again I don't claim to be an expert in copper or in that series.

Thanks Bob!

The auction is just a random assortment of coins and notes and these two gems. Face value it's worth around 50$ and I estimate the resale value is about $100 at least. Gonna try and get it and if I do I'll be sure to post better pictures of these two coins as well as other strange junk this guy has.

I'm willing to go along with the Chuck III being fake but it's one I'd like to have!
