Reading history books,I have found that although warriors, the Visigoths were very cultured people, and in particular SISEBUTO,but their coins are very rustic ....
(¿?-621 king 612-621)
Sisebuto was elected king upon the death of Gundemaro. During his reign domino several rebellions of the Asturians and confronted the Byzantines. The campaign against these, directed by Suintila, that later would occupy the throne, was favorable to the Visigoths and the Byzantine governor had to request the peace. An agreement was signed with the emperor Heraclius I, Sisebuto known staff, by which the Byzantines reduced their possessions to some areas of the Algarves.

Sisebuto was more worship and lawyer in the Visigothic kings. Written by him, have been preserved letters, the book 'Life of St. Desiderio". The religious policy of Sisebuto will be marked by the enactment of various anti-jewish laws, in which arrives to establish mandatory conversion to Christianity. These provisions, commented unfavourably by the bishops, was due to causes political-economic. Sisebuto died in 621, still doubts about whether it was a natural death or poisoned.
He was succeeded by his son Recaredo II that remained barely a month on the throne to succumb to a noble revolt headed by Suintila.

This is an amazing coin. It is very interesting how the many peoples of Europe with many different languages and cultures, share so much of a common history. A very beautiful and historic piece of numismatics. Kudos my friend. One of the best types you posted.
