Here is coin #6 from my NYINC visit. It is also the only Greek silver that I purchased. I have wanted one of these types for a while and Mrs. TJ liked it so...her it is!
Thrace, Apollonia Pontika, Late 4th-5th century BC, AR Drachm. Facing head of Medusa / Anchor; A left, Crayfish rt., 2.82 grams, 13.5mm
There are so many variations of this coin. Each intriguing. I find myself looking at them and wanting to pull the trigger all the time. This one is no exception. It's a wonder how they got so much detail on these small coins. Nice picj up
I agree with bing- there are many interesting variations of this coin. There are also alot of modern fakes of this coins. I think they are all well documented. I alike this type , I don't own one of this denomination I have a smaller Di obol. I hope to pick me up one someday soon. I just haven't had call out to me. Great and popular coin. Very nice.
