Sorry if this beats a dead horse.

I have been on a quest for the best way to keep and enjoy my collection. Seeing the coin edge seemed good.

The holders for same have nothces in them I guess to keep the coin from rotating. Looks like rim hits especially on small coins. These are out.

Eagle holders maybe a good fit. Maybe. Some coins slid and the expense is overwhelming. Neat looking holders all the same. These are out. Maybe.

Card board mylar holders (2 X 2's) are inexpensive. One could put a smaller coin into a larger holder to achieve the coin edge viewing. Seems good. The problem for me is a holder page in a binder looks like a dealers stock page at a show. Unappealing for my own viewing enjoyment. To this end these are out.

Maybe paint of otherwise alter the white card board? Too labor intensive and looks poor anyway.

Maybe abandon the coin edge viewing altogether and go for albums. A good number to choose from. A subject for another post that from what I have read has been discussed well here.

Current conclusion to this dilemma. I'm going to use Eagle holders for the better coins and albums for rank and file series coins. Hoping the slide issue isn't too great with Eagle.

Your comments and / or questions.

Had the same thoughts as you and did not come to a final conclusion.

However I had initial conclusions, I believe that the best approach will be to invest in a good quality coin album for the special coins and the ones that you would like to show.

Use coin slabs for the most valued coins you want to protect and preserve. Use card boards for coins that are marked for exchange. Rolls for circulated and casual series.

Anyway, it is very important to classify your coins and assess their value in order to decide in which coin holders and in how many to invest.

Simple answer to a complex question, Use 2x2's ( or for larger coins 2.5x2.5's flips )in archival non PVC albums.
If you need to really look at the edge lettering/detail simply pull the coin out of the album and remove from the flip and view, Then fit in a new flip and put it back in the album.
Simple, easy and kind on your coins
