So, I was CRHing some pennies today. I found a 1966 in excellent condition and decided to hang onto to it to see if it was an upgrade on my current 1966. When I got home to check it against my current 1966, I noticed that the beads were noticeably larger than the one that I already had. I put it under a loup and confirmed what I thought that I saw.

I cannot find any info on a 1966 large bead penny. Does anybody know if this is a known variety? I checked several others and couldn't find another.

I am working on getting some pictures and will post them as soon as they are available.

The first the one that I am used to seeing. The second image is the one that I found today. The pictures aren't the best, but you should be able to see the difference in the size of the beads.

They both look like small beads to me.For your coins to be a large beads and small beads varieties they must have the same positions of the A in REGINA that the '65 varieties have. It's not just the size of the beads that differ in the '65 obverses.

I was thinking about that as well. All the positions of the beads are denticles. Is there some way that the beads on the dies could have worn to become larger? I know the pictures don't show it really well, but the beads in the second picture have nearly no space between them.

Yes,beads can vary in size, due to die wear, punch wear, filling, weak strike etc.

They look larger but also look like they are in the same place.
