Neither of my two dealers was there. About 1/3 of the dealers compared to last month.
Public attendance way off as well. Brian, the guy from whom I bought the counterfeit dollar last month, had six fake Barber coins. For $17. Also bought some coin holders. $8. A cheap Sunday for a change!
I did strike up a conversation with a family. I recommended coincommunity.com as a very child friendly place. Dad was complaining about
online sites that they have visited so far, and I assured him that we were the best of the best.
While we all applaud the CCF's presence at a National Show, let us never underestimate that each of us can make a difference on a regional or even local level.

I visited a coin show in Tacoma WA recently and was exceptionally disappointed. A little over a dozen displays few coins of my interest and little attendance. A far cry from the shows I had attended in Colorado

The economy is having a big effect on people's disposable money. Dealer's have to decide if if makes financial sense to spend money to go to a show. Great time for bargain hunters that have the cash available.

I think what you are seeing is both a result in the bad economy and bandwagon silver collectors losing interest since silver has traded basically in a sideways trend for over 1.5 years. That and we just came off of the Christmas shopping season. Give it a couple of months and let the tax refund checks start rolling in and you may see things pick up a bit.

I think their is a coin show in Baton Rouge, LA in Feb. I'm going to check it out. It will be my first. Don't really have anything I'm looking for, just want to check it out and see if anything jumps out at me.

Prices are down in most series from a few years ago which means less profit margin and even losses on things that were purchased a while ago. Some shows do better than others depending what a dealer stocks and with internet sales as well dealers will probably pick and choose what shows are worth paying for
