Cheers, John and to CCF!! (I see by your post count that you've been here a bit, but I haven't seen you around, so. Welcome from me, anyway!) For American members, this was a $42.44 purchase (I included shipping when I made the conversion). Hobbizine suggests a value of $38 (£23.95) for this coin in XF (it jumps straight from XF to UNC, unfortunately), and your coin is definitely above XF. I'd call it AU-58 and someone here who knows Morgans better than I do may bump it a bit (I'm not sure if that mark on the nose takes away a possible MS designation). I would say that provided the coin is real, you made a fantastic purchase--high grade, good price, lovely eye appeal. Congrats!

That's a nice coin :). Strong, sharp strike, not too many marks. If you were in the states, I'd say you did alright, but in Ireland? great staff :D.

I can't see any wear in the pictures but the scratches on the face and the larger gouge on the eagle concern me a bit as far as the MS designation go. I would say at minimum high AU with a possible low MS. I can't tell if it was cleaned, from the pictures I do not think it was.
Not sure if you are aware but the New Orleans mint was notorious for weak strikes. It think your coin has a descent strike for New Orleans and the one flat area in the hair is from a weak strike and not wear.
IMHO you did very well at the price you paid!

I'd say for in Ireland you did excellent! Definitely a beautiful Morgan! I'd put the grade in the higher AU, possibly MS but the face hit might hold it back. But for the money I'd say great buy! (By the way, If I could go anywhere in the world on vacation it would be Ireland!!)

Great purchase. Tough to tell from pictures but I believe that is, most likely, an MS-62 Morgan. Fields look frosty. Couple hits would keep it out of MS-63. no mint often has week strike don't confuse that with wear.

Great looking Morgan! I love collecting these, but it will be several years before I complete my set. Well, actually, I'll never have a complete set due to the 1895 Proof. That's OK, though.

Her face has too many hits and the bad hit on the Eagles chest keep this at a low MS62 at best. Still, a very nice coin and a very good deal indeed! A purchase you can be proud of.

Don't have the expertise to comment on the grade but wanted to welcome you to the U.S. Classics subforum! Its great that you are collecting quality coins at a young age.
