As far as I know, based on reading several different forums on this website, and google research I have a question for you experienced collectors. How many of you remember how much a lets say 1995 American Eagle Coin was back in the year 1995? Have these coins always carried a premium? Based upon what I have read you can always get more money for an ASE verses a generic silver round. I ask this because I am currently building up my silver collection, almost at 50 ounces, but I am also trying to feel a Dansco Album with all the 1986-2013 American Silver Eagles. I currently only have 7 in the album and find myself back tracking trying to buy dates like 1989-2000. I was just wondering what the least amount yall ever paid for an ASE like anyone pay less than $10.00 for one? Thanks for help. Have a great week!!

I spotted this ASE in a 7-11 cashier's drawer in 1993. I traded him a $1 note, and he seemed glad to get rid of this coin!

DNA- wow how did you manage to spot in the drawer lol
As far as eagles, my experience over going my collection recently, even buying directing from the mint and going over current prices and what I bought prems range oh I dunno off top of my head 10 - 20% over what I bought on the Eagles alone (these are proofs). I have also uncirculated ones from the US Mint and rolls as well.
I think you are safe if you can buy some every year and just sit on them for couple years or more.

Well after a little forensic research I can say that in 2006 I paid between $13.00 and $17.00 per eagle and bought a complete set in '07 for $375.00

I dont know what they sold for in the 90s. I do know that they have always carried a premium for the non bullion issues and that the price has increased with the cost of the silver

I have not paid less than $10 for an ASE but many, many people have. From 1986 through 2004 silver hovered under $5/oz and ASE were available for $7 or $8 a piece. There was likely brief periods of time where they dropped to $6/ea. 20 coin rolls of BU ASE were $150/roll for most of the 1990's. The lowest I've ever paid was $14/ea. I remember well that rolls were available for $300 just 5 years ago. I doubt we'll ever see that again.

I purchased my first 1987 ASE as a grade schooler for $8.00 back in 1989. It was the most expensive coin in my collection at the time. Too bad that I did not buy another one until 2003.

I have always purchased proof ASE's but in 2006 I bought a 21 coin BU set with the album and shipping for $333. The next 6 coins cost me nearly half amount I spent on the first 21.

Quote: I doubt we'll ever see that again. Probably not, but then, we don't need to see that again to do really well. Those who bought gold for $100-200 an oz. probably do not care which of those they paid!

Thanks for all the input.. Looks like 35-40 dollars for the ones that I still need. Silvertowne is all sold out, and so are alot of the other places. Really don't want to buy them one by one on ebay.. just don't trust it. Guess I will have to hit up the Silver Stores and hope they dont charge me too much.

I have won two silver eagles in raffles where the only cost to enter was to pay the $1 admission to the coin show. For actually buying, I think the least I have paid was $8.75 at a coin shop when spot was about $4.50. Like already mentioned, they could be had for a $1-2 less if purchased in larger quantities and at places like coin shows.
