Hey bullion people,

A relative has asked me to get rid of silver quarters for cash. I can't afford to pay and keep them all, and I don't have enough posts to sell them here. I am wondering what I can expect as offers from dealers at the upcoming Hartford CT coin show. Will dealers offer X dollars below spot?
I have portioned the coins into 3 categories
-Quarters less than about good 3
-pre 1950 quarters good to fair
-1951 through 1964 quarters

It looks like after 1950 quarters aren't worth much until you get into the high AU to MNS range which they are not. Most are fine to extra fine.

Am I wrong in assuming pre 1950 quarters in fine condition should be worth more than melt?

Any input would be great! Just looking to guage what range I should expect as an offer and whether certain coins would warrant a numismtic value vs the value of the silver they are made with.

I agree with swrbxxx, you'll probably be offered a few bucks per ounce below spot. Probably between $5-5.25 for each quarter.

I wouldn't expect any numismatic premium unless you have a 32s or 32d in the group (assuming you only have Washington quarters).

I considered ebay but after looking at completed listings, if they sell for melt I lose 12% in the transaction and then can only withdraw 500 a month. with a .50 cent listing fee that puts me at 26.25 an ounce which is just about what $5-$5.25 per coin would be so it doesn't seem worth it.

They are all Washington quarters starting at 1934 and it doesn't look like they have a weak motto.
There are 4 Standing Liberty quarters but the dates are not readable. suprisingly two have an S mint mark but no clue what years they are because they are too worn out

If you have some time to sell, you could try listing them as 'Buy It Now' on ebay for the price you want to get. Like you said, you are going to lose 12% to eBay/paypal fees, so take that into account when figuring a price. The advantage of BIN listings are that you either get the price you want or there's no sale, and the fees are a little lower than an auction if the price is high enough.

I when I sold silver last September and December I shopped it around with the following results:

Two "Cash for Gold/Silver" places: 70-80% of spot
My local coin shop: 66% of spot
ebay: Looking at completed auctions less fees and shipping I estimated 85-90% of spot
CCF: Offered to sell for spot with free shipping but no takers
Gainesville Coins: 96% of spot (Specifically they offered spot minus $1 Face)

I sold to Gainesville Coins both times. I sold 90% quarters and silver proof dimes / quarters / halves. They offered no premium for the proofs over junk 90%

thanks guys.
All the local cash for gold places are around 4.50-5 per coin where I am
I have had offers for 21x face
Unfortunately my relative is intent on taking it to a coin show to get some offer.
When she realizes they will likely be lowball offers I will be revisiting one of the many reasonable avenues I have found...

The 21 x is probably not too bad.

How much is she looking to move? If she just wants to dump them, sounds like a lot of hassle dragging them all over the state.

Yeah I don't think you will get 21X right now. When I offered that silver was at close to $33 an oz.

Good Luck
