alright, I can read the characters, so I know what the original 'thing' was (1 tael, 1884, Jilin province), and this one looks fake to me - just like those piles of various rounds at asian flea markets

is that the color, fuzzy relief, or what? how can you say something is fake judging by a photo?

It looks fake because of the casting pearls and the raised lip around the rim onthe obverse (bottom picture).
