This 1888O Morgan has a lot going on. First, I'm guessing an MS60. Lots of bag marks. Maybe too many? Looking over the VAM list for this date I did not find one match for this Morgan. On the reverse there are numerous die breaks. They are small but visible. Starting with the left side of the reverse, the first die break is from the STAR to the U(nited). Next die break starts just to the left of the T carrying over to the right side of the T joining the E. Below the E & the D there is a very tiny die break running from the wreath to the wing. Another die break from the D to the wing, running through the wing to the S and on to the T. One I did not photograph but runs from the STAR to the O(NE). Last, there is what appears to be a very small Cud just below and to the right of the 1888. At first I thought it was hit but if you look at the side view there is no deformity to the rim or reeds. Lots to see. What's your take?

Just one small comment since I'm on my phone and want to see the coin on a bigger monitor for detailed opinion:

What you're calling a tiny Cud does actually meet the strict definition of a Cud. So small as this, we generally refer to it as "rim crumbling."

Look at VAM23. Yours looks like a slightly earlier die state than the plate coin.

dave700x,

Good call. I have no idea how I missed that one. I thought I covered every die break connection but clearly, I did not. Another VAM for the collection. Any opinions on grade?

I think you're correct with the condition. MS60/ MS61 looks about correct to me. Nice VAM!

Looks like a bottom of the bag dollar (these got the most abuse, meaning bag marks, when the bags were tossed around) but with excellent luster and a slightly above average strike for a New Orleans Mint dollar. Nice VAM attribution to boot, a coin to be cherished in your collection.
