Hi all,

I'm new to this group, and am relatively new to coin collecting. Currently, I'm collecting mint state Jefferson nickels, starting from 1948, and would like to store these in an album - I have one by Littleton. In some other forums the feelings about coin albums have been mixed - some people advise against it, because it involves some contact with the coin and there may be some damage from the plastic slider. If I use cotton gloves when inserting my coins, is it still not a good idea to insert mint state coins in an album?

What are your feelings/recommendations?

Thanks,
Paul

Theres going to be risks with any way that you store your coins, if there was anyway to have a risk free storage method everyone would use it.

I personally think albums are fine, as long as you get them in their right and dont just jam the slides over them it shouldnt be an issue. Personally I like the Dansco albums with the slipcases for some extra protection and havent used the Littleton ones so I cant comment on those in particular.

Ive heard of some people doing rows at a time when placing them in the albums to minimize how many times they open the slides, but if you seat the coin properly and are careful with the slides it shouldnt be much of an issue imo
